Even if, hypothetically, Trump is some how replaced on the ticket… How is the new nominee even going to have a fighting chance at winning in November? It was a pipe dream that the contested convention white knight would have been able to save the party. This replacement nominee would have less prep and no free national introduction in the form of an acceptance speech. They could, in theory, take over the Trump campaign, but according to reports you and I have better national organizations than Trump does.
The reality for the GOP is that Trump is there best hope for winning in November. At this point, they are basically Northwest Louisiana Tech playing LSU in September at Death Valley - technically they have a chance, but they’re a +45 underdog.
If anything, you’re underplaying the hurdles. You’d need to make sure that you have enough time to get the replacement name on the ballot.
And it looks like those deadlines have already passed in some states if you were going to run as an independent.
