This is where I lose context. All I heard was, “We dropped a bunker-buster in Afghanistan.” By itself, that just tells me that Drumpf is out playing with new toys. If there’s more there that I am missing, that may change my view.

That’s the thing too, the MOAB isn’t a “bunker buster” by design. It’s primarily designed to engage large surface target areas using extreme over pressure. Employing it in the valleys of Nangarhar Province would increase it’s effectiveness against caves/tunnels. Which is why back in 2001 they dropped similar weapons in the same general area.
Also, it could be advantageous psychologically. It’s pretty terrifying for those being attacked, and highly motivational for those prepared to enter the area after the attack. The motivation is a big deal in my mind, because it’s Afghan forces being sent in to clear the area.
