I don’t get this. It is no small task to run a national organization employing thousands, and running hundreds of events, managing countless complicated sponsorship arrangements, marketing and branding and everything else. It is no different than running a large company. If you want it done well, you pay for someone to run it well. 400K for a CEO of such an organization is perfectly acceptable to me. Now this CEO is apparently a fucking moron. But that is not to say that they have not built something impressive here, at least until they destroyed their brand two days ago.
