The Germans don’t exactly have a great track record when it comes to people they admire.

Germans have a great aversion towards anything resembling a surveillance state, recall that all of East Germany was probably the world’s most advanced surveillance state until 1989…that causes them to have a rather different and more approving view of Snowden’s actions.
