re: #246 littleoldlady

Please tell me you just plug it in to the back of the computer…

In the last year or so (my model is a late 2008 version iMac) the memory panel is on the bottom, requires a phillips screwdriver. After the panel is off, you lift a retaining flap, press in the memory module, put back the flap, and screw the panel back on.

Not difficult, but if it makes you uncomfortable then I’d order the memory with the computer and instruct that the vendor install the memory (as Apple will do when you order direct from them.)

BTW, I got a refurb unit from Apple… perfectly fine. However, I ordered the memory from Crucial and installed myself, in order to save a few $$$.

AppleCare is the extended warranty. It doesn’t have to be bought up front - you can buy it any time during the extent of the original warranty, and gives you full labor and parts coverage for 3 years, and software support for a full year (as opposed to only a 90 day software support that comes with the computer.)
