Go ahead and pretend that the GOP has a monopoly on racism. You won’t fool me and I don’t think the electorate will be fooled either.


Actually it’s the GOP that should be worried about race in the long term. By letting Palin, Beck, and teabaggers become the spokespeople for the party, they’ve essentially given up on minority voters in the foreseeable future. This means the GOP is competing for a shrinking piece of the pie.

The US becomes about 0.5% less white each year. Over a few decades, such a change is huge—by 2040, whites, now 68% of the population, will be less than 50%. That’s right: a majority of Americans won’t even be “real Americans.” And it doesn’t bode well for the teabaggers, or the party that panders to them.
