Seriously though, the events in Egypt today should be giving all Egyptians pause even as they celebrate. There was a constitution in place. There was a legitimately elected president and government. The military, sensing popular opinion opted to depose Morsi and basically undo the last year’s worth of events.

What can stop the military from doing that again after the new elections and government is formed?

For starters, it would take a more consensual government with a functioning majority and minority party represented. The Constitution needs to clearly delineate the roles for the three branches, and clearly indicate the role of the military is subservient to that of the civilian government. Put teeth to that requirement.
