Well, but that’s exactly it, though. He isn’t a believer - we all know that - but it makes him feel good to feel wanted, even needed, by somebody. He’ll do whatever it takes to stay on the Christians’ good side, because the feeling of power he gets from being the Almighty’s supposed anointed one is an aphrodisiac to him.
