Still, they must be there for a reason. Obama has been a stickler for following the law in immigration and drug laws, why would he vow to close GITMO and then not do it?

The reason probably has something to do with someone elses issues with Power and Control. Yet, I understand there are some really, baddy baddie guys there.

The list of reasons for not clearing out Gitmo at this point mostly boil down to one thing: There’s no way to try most of these men in a court of law without the very real danger of the cases being thrown out either due to lack of admissible evidence or because under the rules of war we can’t try POWs for crimes against us while the war is ongoing, and we can’t guarantee that their home countries wouldn’t torture or execute them upon release. So we’re stuck with men we can’t legally try but also can’t release.
