6% of voters in 2016 voted for someone other than the Republican or Democratic nominee. That’s the highest third party vote percentage since Perot got 8% in 1996. And Clinton underperformed Obama’s 2012 totals by about 100k votes nationally (even though 7 million more people voted in 2016 than in 2012). There are plenty of votes out there for the 2020 Democratic nominee to win that didn’t vote for Clinton in 2016. The question at this point, is what is the best way to win those votes?
