re: #19 nom de boom

A little early to be going off-topic, but I just had to get this off my chest.
Sure, my neighbors are happy Barry was elected, but they’ve never flown the American flag before tonight. Well, I take that back. They also flew it the day after the election, when it became apparent that Barry had won. Not before. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure there’s something instructive about that fact. There are many of us who haven’t the foggiest idea of what it is that makes this country great. They don’t know why it’s deserving of their affection, their respect, their sacrifice. Patriotism, for them, is contingent upon their guy (or girl) winning the given election. I saw that video yesterday of all these celebrities pledging to “serve Barack Obama.” Well, where the crap were you before he won? Isn’t your COUNTRY deserving of your service and respect whether the President is D or R? And to my neighbors: doesn’t your flag deserve to be displayed because the country it represents is the greatest nation on earth? If your love for your country is so shallow as to rise and fall with any one man or party, you are better off surrendering your citizenship. You are a betrayer, and you cannot be trusted.

Ok, much better.

News a couple of nights ago here in Seattle interviewed what I presume to be a college age girl going to DC for the inauguration.

“For the first time I feel patriotic.”
