The whole nation was in the midst of a deep depression and the Republican Party was the party in charge when it happened. It wasn’t a situation like 2016 where most of the country was doing well and the stock market was booming — in 1932 the stock market was down 90% from its high in 1929 and the unemployment rate had surged to 25% from 3.2%. That is the type of economic nightmare that can lead to revolution.

the 1929 crash was in year 1 of Hoover’s term; he had another 3 years for everyone to internalize that it was on his watch. That he did nothing to help. People in soup lines had a lot of time to talk to each other, and had a lot to talk about; they knew their tent cities were “Hooverville.” And the rich people weren’t coming around to talk to them.

The 2008 collapse happened a few weeks before the election; the effects only became super-obvious after the election. There was Fox News. Obama took the blame.
