re: #269 Killgore Trout

I did have some hope that Obama might decriminalize weed in his second term but that would require a Dem congress. That looks pretty unlikely.

The big deal now is some folks are trying to blame Obama for a DEA “crack down” on medical marijuana and dispensaries. Once against we see people who seem to think that the president has magical powers. He’s limited in how he can use his executive power and as you know an executive order can be easily reversed with a new administration.

Practically speaking some of the medical marijuana dispensaries need to clean up their act and present a more professional “medical” appearance if they are indeed, well, medical. Right now there’s a great deal of “recreational air” to this budding industry. In Colorado they will be closing those within one mile of schools. There is a lot of abuse going on now and it’s very easy to get a prescription for “medical” marijuana if you seek that.

It’s not high on my list of priorities for the president. I’ve always said that the medical marijuana route was the wrong way to go and that it should flatly be legalized for recreational use. Right now tying it in as medical also brings it under the eye of the FDA. Big mistake for those that seek recreational use.
