I saw it starting in the 80s during Reagan years and his embrace of Falwell and the supposed Silent Majority. Maybe it was just more obvious here in Texas when the chairman of the Republican party here in Houston was openly advocated replacing the Constitution with biblical law. That’s when a coordinated effort began to take over local politics, starting with school boards, to turn the US into a right wing theocracy. It wasn’t a secret - they were quite open and proud of it.

That was when, and why, I stopped voting Republican.

A lot of the Evangelical right felt betrayed by Reagan (and Nancy’s house astrologer). They decided to make a long-term effort of insinuating their people into every level of government, public administration, education and even the military.

They have quietly suceeded.
