Nicely done, Japan. Not big on sports, less on soccer, even less on women’s. (Sorry.) But that game was epic to watch.

As for Murdoch, this scandal will not bring down Fox News in the US. I would bet a substantial amount of money on it. Ailes is too smart and the network has too much cover from a major political party. As David Frum recently said… the GOP used to think Fox worked for them, and has discovered it’s the other way around.

There is a chance, however, that it will unseat Murdoch from News Corp. He only owns like 37% of the stock, and has managed to hold control only through force of personality and will alone. His shareholders are furious and there are others who are eligible to step up. There’s also been a lot of complaints within the company brass about Murdoch trying to place his own family in positions of power to replace him, and this would be a good opportunity for them to rebuff that.

If the Murdoch family loses their hold on News Corp, it won’t mean the immediate end by any stretch, but it could mean a weakening of the ideological hyper-partisan purity that characterizes Murdoch’s news outlets. That is, unless the new faceless corporation decides that’s still the best way to make money.
