One thing I’ve noticed with Matthew evacuations, this time most of the shelters are pet-friendly, so people who otherwise would refuse to leave their cats/dogs behind were more likely to go. Saw a tweet from one emergency manager assuring someone that yes, they could bring their parrot to the shelter with them.
