After re-watching the Loving documentary, man what I wouldn’t give for another Earl Warren. Someone not afraid to call out bigots on their shit. Honestly, I wouldn’t complain if Clinton nominated someone who derides conservative judicial views the same way Scalia always did to the liberal one. Another William Douglas type I guess? Either way, they really fucked up with this and it’s going to cost them big down the road on the judiciary.

Warren owed his job to swinging the California delegation to Ike at the 1952 Republican convention. Sadly, that kind of thing doesn’t happen any more- either appointing a politician or having one swing delegates at the convention (although maybe the Republicans should think about bringing that system back in 2020).
