The Big Tebowski debate was another one that led from the assertion of the religious right that America was out to ban religious expression from public life.
He was their poster child.That is far from the case, the issue was government-sanctioned and sponsored public expressions of faith.
There is a difference, namely the difference between the freedom to practive your religion and the ability to impose it on others.
But if you believe that the Pilgrims came to America to esxcercise their freedom of religion, you will buy that argument.
The was one of the Pilgrims major reasons, yes. Not the only one, but the critical one.
