I think regardless of the specific threat, people really need to start taking diaster prep more seriously. While some regions are better than others, I think its safe to say there is always more to do. I know in my house we’re now aiming for ‘3 days off the grid’.

at the turn of the millenium, people were stocking up on water. I think it was 9/11 at which the government reminded us that we should plan at least 2 days before services could be implemented. I think your 3 days is a better bet.
