Speaking of plants, I am now convinced that it is impossible to match a chocolate with figs.
I love figs. A freshly picked, truly ripe, fig is one of the premier human foods - indeed, we were eating them before we were human.
Perhaps because of that long co-evolution with the fig, we are very sensitive to small changes in “fig flavor”. Ripe figs are very sweet, which I love, but they have a rich flavor, or more accurately, odor. Chocolate likewise has a very complex odor. Combining them results in not a symphony of flavor but rather a car crash of cuisine.
