This case got a bunch of local coverage here, since it happened at La Guardia, and TBH, it sounds more like a mental issue than a “political” one. From most reports, the guy apparently just had a panic attack on the takeoff taxi, and decided to bolt: his girlfriend and dog just followed him out. That said, this is potentially dangerous (though I really hope you can’t open the doors in flight) while they should get the book thrown at them, IMO that book ought to be the DSM….

Who I really feel sorry for is the poor dog (though he was supposed to be bailed out today….)

You can’t open the doors in flight. The pressure differential holds them closed pretty darn strongly.
