It’s the same process you can see at play between the Roberts Court and the people trying to justify gerrymandering…and now with the batted-down attempt to switch legal teams regarding the census.

It’s arguing in bad faith—all rhetoric, no central belief in the validity of law, precedent, or separation of powers—but in front of a complicit arbiter who’s willing to patiently wait until an statement that is plausible is introduced.

Basically, everything becomes theater. Veracity is substituted with versimilitude, and all thought becomes aesthetic.

I mean, we can see this when we look at pundits and grifters. They encourage people to not have a consistent episteme, and substitute a sort of gut-feeling emotional impression paired with ritualized (highly emotional) repetition of rote statements that generally involve the inherent wrongness of anyone that is deemed “other” and thus no need to argue seriously or give ear to good faith counterarguments.
