Living in Virginia, which actually is a state that has begun swinging more and more like a screen door, I understand that my vote counts in presidential years. Hell, I saw a small miracle two years ago, when all three of the top spots (Gov, Lt. Gov, & AG) went to Democrats despite the full-court press to make the election about Obamacare and about how McAuliffe was little more than a catspaw for the White House.

That said, I’m not overly thrilled with Hillary being the heir apparent, because I know that there are young Democrats out there that have broad appeal. I’d love to see a Corey Booker, Julian Castro, or (yes) an Elizabeth Warren out there on the campaign trail, showing that there is young blood in the party’s veins. But I’m also pragmatic about these things, and when you’ve got a candidate who is ahead of any potential GOP challengers, whose poll numbers are holding steady despite “scandals,” it’s hard to argue that I should consider abandoning her simply because her proposals don’t exactly match up with my views.
