Because human life, or more accurately the processes that when ended determine death, develop incrementally over 9 months or so.
Not at all.
At the end of a human life, there’s general agreement between doctors, lawyers, clergy and laypeople that brain activity or the lack thereof is where we draw the line between a human being, and something that just looks like one.
That seems a reasonable criteria to use for the beginning of a human life as well.
