Remember Mom would make City Chicken once a week. She always said it was a Depression dish of mock chicken legs made with seasoned pork or veal cubes put on a skewer, dipped in egg and half & half then coated with crushed Kellogg’s corn flakes. Mom would fry it up and got it nice and crunchy.

Now realizing Mom has been gone for 22 years…

My family’s Depression era recipe is vinegar pie. It’s a dessert made with apple cider vinegar, sugar, and flour with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
