US can’t take in millions… of impoverished workers & hope to provide its own low-income citizens w/ lives of dignity or economic security.

Not a particularly persuasive argument when the GOP has done everything imaginable to hold back those same low-wage Americans from advancing, by thwarting health care reform (or fixing actual problems with the PPACA rather than tilt at windmills by demanding repeal of everything) or suggesting measurable improvements that would enhance the program. Same with labor laws, workplace safety rules, and environmental rules and regs that affect the health of everyone (but siting of many environmental hazards falls on the economically disadvantaged).
