Like I said above, scratch that — there was no original text. I meant to say, and should have said, the accompanying “assignment” for students to write about “how can we help the President”.

OTOH if the “assignment” had been accompanied by the text of the actually delivered speech I think there would (and should) have been much less criticism. At least there would have been context. The whole question of whether the President was being unduly venerated is still worthy of debate… but an assignment about helping students do the best for themselves and take responsibility for their future is far more benign…maybe even constructive.
