I’m almost the point of eye-rolling when someone tells me of a diagnosis of autism. Maybe 1/50 of the kids I’ve met seem to be truly disabled. Many just seem to travel to the beat of a different drummer.

As long as kids are getting the help they need, it is good. If the label is helpful in receiving treatment and funding for even mild disorders that don’t fall strictly under the label of autism, it is not a waste. If the label begins to limit kids options …
