Bribery is a way of life deeply entrenched through (in my experience) Asia. From residence visas to international business contracts and local permits - someone with the approval chop or series of people with the chops almost always is a toll gate. Individuals are appointed to these position by relatives or friends in power. It becomes their “rice bowl” to supplement their megar government salary.

Shocking? Not!
