Ask Indiana democrats after the Bayh announcement this last week.
Ask New Jersey democrats a couple years ago after their candidate withdrew, allowing for the Lauthenberg election.
Didn’t Dodd and Dorgan also withdraw to prevent primary runs by their successors?
