The better half brought this point up, gov’t should be ran like a business. IOW, show a profit or at least a non negative balance. We have folks in congress, who are suddenly experts at everything, actually have no experience in anything.

The problem with that analogy for me has always been that it leads you astray really quickly.

The purpose of a business is to grow as large as possible, producing as large a return for shareholders as possible. Is that what we want from our government?

Government isn’t a business it’s a government. It does things counterintuitively to what a business would do, like run a deficit when business is hurting and run a big surplus (pull back on expansion) when it’s running hot. That’s exactly the opposite of what any sane business person would do.

I dig the larger point that I wish we judged government on its results rather than it’s ideology, but that seems pretty impossible.
