DoD is the largest fed energy user, and has led environmental progress from the beginning. USAF flew a B52 on biofuel more than 20 years ago, and the Army tested an electric HMMWV at about the same time. New construction and retrofitting have tackled HVAC waste since the 70s. They didn’t do it because they’re tree-huggers, they did it because energy is a national security must-do.
