I don’t think hate speech should be illegal in the US.

I will say that incitement to violence should be at least unlawful.

And there’s a big difference between hate speech a hate crime, unless you consider a guy shouting bad words to be equivalent to being curbstomped or having your synagogue painted with swastikas.
