Before Reagan was governor, and wrecked the system, much of CA education was free or near it. CCNY was free. I was able to cover almost all costs at UofLouisville on the GI Bill. We are screwing our kids and making education the realm of the rich and debt-slaves.

After he retired, my dad was seriously contemplating going to back to CCNY to finish the degree he had to abandon back during the Depression. He didn’t get around to it, because of health issues, though. I think he said they still had his transcript on file after 40+ years.

I liked being a student. If I could decide now what I’d like to study, I’d consider going back to school — if I could afford it.
