As a high-school teacher in FL, the direct effect to me is that my school can not mandate that kids wear masks, as the district, with its Repub superintendent, follows DeSantis’s lead. I’m hoping most of the 60% or so who don’t wear masks are vaccinated, but we are not allowed to ask.

Last year, everyone wore masks and ~40% of students were online. I had 3 students that I know of who tested positive all year, out of ~150.

This year, I have had over a dozen already. Hard to say for certain, as we are not always notified, but when a kid is out for 2 weeks straight, you can guess. So, that’s about 10% of my students catching Covid already, and it’s only September (we’ve been in school for about 6 weeks). Most likely, most caught it outside of school.

So far, all recovered pretty quickly, although one student has lingering symptoms (fatigue, difficulty concentrating, etc.).

Me, I’m Pfizer’d up and wear a double mask, hoping for the best.
