Someone needs to remind the Republicans that the ultimate solution to James Kirk’s “Kobayashi Maru” scenario ended up causing the death of his closest friend.

The tea party and the religious right have to be thrown overboard if the GOP is to remain a force in national politics. That is a very tall order but it is the only solution I can see. There is a bare chance someone like Christy could put together a sane coalition that could successfully confront the crazies in the primaries.
A lot depends on how the TP and the RR nuts behave during the next four years. I suspect some of their followers will commit acts, and make statements, that will bring the whole movement into national disrepute. It has happened before: In the early 20s the revived Ku Klux Klan was a major force in American politics, perhaps as powerful as the TP/RR is today. A decade later, nobody would even admit to knowing the cat that drug them in.
