Social Security and the FDIC did a lot to protect people from bank failures that could wipe out a lifetime of savings in an eye blink. Which to large business and the wealthy was simply a minor market correction.

Wagner is one of the best senators ever. Also author of the Wagner Act which guaranteed a right to organize. But yeah thinking about the New Deal, I think a lot of conservatives and libertarians or hell even some liberals don’t appreciate where we were in 1933 and why FDR and his allies had to make the legislation and agencies that were created. That ironically did more to prevent Communism from happening here than any red-baiting did.
