A lot of my employer’s high end donors seem to think that. They’ve been successful in business and a lot of them like liberal arts and humanities grads for hiring.

Late to the party, but I work in high, high tech and the best engineer we have has a degree in theater from Colorado State. My degree is in psychology and I’m an enterprise systems architect. We hire thinking skills, not degrees.

My husband’s school has an equal emphasis on liberal arts and STEM. As does my son’s school. What I do see is schools trying to pigeonhole students very early. Take a test, looks like engineering is for you, load up on STEM classes, here’s your learning path for the next 10 years. Nope, I refused permission to let my sons take those aptitude tests. Flat out told the counselors they would not be setting foot in these sessions. I want them taking anything they want to take.
