re: #311 Decatur Deb

Our family will give a firm but limited endorsement to the no milk/no gluten experiment. It does not apply to all cases, nor has the mechanism been explained. At the same time, there is no doubt that GD3 quickly goes into headaches and loses it for half a day if she slips off the diet. Her reaction is way stronger than any placebo effect, and was obvious before she had any idea of what a ‘diet’ was. By age 6 she was completely self-policing on treats-of-opportunity.

A Norwegian doc at Uppsala is the proponent, and thinks it is a metabolic reaction in certain types of autism. Other studies have attacked it. There is no great ‘movement’ associated with the diet. If it works, do it, if not forget it. Watch for adequate nutrients.

There is some expensive not covered by insurance blood test people use to determine certain whatevers (yes it is morning). Then tweek their diets until they get the best results.

They say it’s a lot of work and research, but the results are worth it.
