So why not use Roma instead unless you insist on having really weird historical connotations that tell more about the people using the word than those whom it supposedly refers to?

Created my own ethnic insult. Our town in Northern Italy had a mild mosquito (zanzare) problem, but not so bad that window srceens were available in the cultural inventory. No big deal for a do-it-yourselfer. So I took my language skills down to the hardware store to get materials. Had a little problem and some laughs when when I tried to describe my project for “schermo anti-zingare”.
