Myself, I don’t give those bigoted people you named enough credit to say the US is not a melting pot. One with no small amount of multi ethnic integration success even with all due respect to whats wrong with the Tea Party etc.

Maybe my judgement is colored by seeing so many kinds of people doing just fine together on my commute and in urban LA. Or by this map.

It’s just a bad metaphor in my opinion. No point in getting defensive about it, it’s just a concept.

BTW as one of those who has been doing the *actual* integrating/melting/whatever for a few decades, now, I don’t need maps or anecdotes about commutes.
