On the issue of SRA, we can point to a specific starting point where the conspiracy theory originated.

That came from the book Michelle Remembers (Wikipedia), published in 1980 by a Canadian couple. The book has been debunked in its entirety with its events not corroborated or flat-out impossible.

The origins of satanic abuse however go back to the Middle Ages or earlier, and the idea is specifically a Christian issue which cuts across all denominations. (Satan has been used to discredit or explain all kinds of things, including yay epilepsy).
