Well, it might well be essential for the purpose of keeping sane congresscritters in good health. Which is important, since the last thing we need is to have a sane Republican fall over dead or invalided and then see that person replaced by someone who enters Congress whirling a teabag.

It might be essential to make sure that folks who rely on WIC, SNAP, and TANF for food, or for startup businesses on the IRS to process their business registrations so that they can begin actual business, but the House GOP didn’t see that as necessary.

It’s a spurious argument that the health of Congressmembers is dependent upon access to a free perk to them - the gym. That’s on top of their Congressional health care program.

But they oppose anyone else getting health benefits via the ACA, and are denying food to women and children via WIC, SNAP, and TANF - which has a direct and measurable impact on those people’s health.

Missing the gym for as long as it takes will not adversely affect their health.
