Interesting afternoon.

I was sitting in my office when i saw the flash of a large wing on our deck. It was our neighbor’s young cockatoo, who had escaped their yard and flew into ours. As I walked outside, the bird took off over our fence and into a yard on the next block. We spotted it, and our neighbors went to get him.

They got him in the car and started coming back, but then the bird flew out the window and disappeared again. After looking for another half hour, my wife spotted him high up in a pine tree in the yard four houses over from ours. After trying to lure him down, they finally had to grab a ladder, and the neighbor actually had to climb the tree and carry the bird back down.

Their youngest son was the one who brought the bird outside. He’s in a little trouble from his mom, and I’d imagine his dad’s a little upset for having to climb that tree.

They need to learn to trim tertiary feathers to prevent him from doing that again.
