How is he going to get good ratings for CBS when neither side seems capable of separating him from his character of the last 15 years, anyway?

It will take a bit of adjustment but I think he’ll be able to make it work. His job is probably safe. Late night shows are mainstream, non-political and inoffensive comedy so if he plays it safe for six months everybody will even forget his Colbert character from Comedy Central. I think he’ll be fine.
