re: #321 JOE 🥓
Memories of the Pitt Crapateria where breakfast and lunch were OK but Dinner wasn’t even up to Hometown Buffet/Golden Corral standards.
Roast Beast, Chicken stew, the worst was Beef A La Dutch which was stew beef in pea soup. So bad folks just threw it in the trash and the flies wouldn’t come near the can.
So glad I had a GE Toaster Oven in my dorm room and I could buy Swanson frozen dinners for 75¢. I got addicted to the Swiss Steak dinners. I’d clean them out when I went to the Giant Eagle or A&P by the campus.
I only carried a meal plan at Pitt as long as it was required. After that it was sort of free-range between cheap stuff gotten at the Giant Eagle, “O” fries, pizza, and the occasional group meals with my fraternity brothers since the house had a kitchen.
I also went home every couple of weekends to do laundry and see my parents. That got me a couple of home cooked meals a week and some supplies from there as well.
