The quote was from FDR’s 1933 inaugural speech. FDR announced that if Congress did not take the measures he asked for, he would ask them for “broad executive powers” to act as in an emergency. I am wondering if Obama would do the same, if or when the economy gets much worse.

That only calms me down slightly. I think he would do exactly the same. I know I’m wearing the tinfoil hat here, but he very well may be deliberately tanking the economy so he can do exactly that. It’s not enough just to take advantage of the crisis; he’s making it worse. I think it’s all part of the plot to create a permanent Democrat majority. Exhibit A: trying to seize control of the census, putting ACORN in charge, to be followed by gerrymandering like you’ve never seen.
