The were, obviously, and there is no claim within the documents themselves of being transcribed while the events took place.

The Synoptic Gospels are believed to have come from the same basic source, probably Paulian in nature, and could very well be partly the work of the guy named “Luke” who was a friend/disciple of Saul/Paul.

The same basic source was “Quelle.”
