The Chinese governments understands the prevailing attitude: have all the democracy you want, just don’t let it interfere with business.

Blocking businesses is not going to help the protesters, so I hope they fall back enough to let local business owners get back to work after the National Holiday.

There’s also the possibility that the counter-protesters are in fact agents of the government sent out to provoke confrontations, so that the cops can be called in to arrest people.
