re: #292 SanFranciscoZionist

I was shocked to learn that my husband had never heard of the “Cross of Gold” speech. Our U.S. history teacher was into it, and it was a running gag for our class for months. You’d be amazed at the number of times a group of kids can sneak “You shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of gold” into everyday speech without it losing its charm.

“OK, so Tina’s bringing the soda, I’ll bring chips, Mark’s getting ranch dip, and Jose?”

“Yeah?”

“YOU SHALL NOT CRUCIFY MANKIND UPON A CROSS OF GOLD!”

General hysteria followed. Every time.

*grin* … In high school, I assume … ?

I did a senior-year-of-college, independent research, “mini-thesis” on the Scopes Trial, including getting into the transcript itself. That’s where my original sarc was rooted. Thankfully, I’ve forgotten most of it.
